Der Bestand schließt digitale Daten ein, vornehmlich digitale Interviewaufnahmen mit 34 Interviewpartnerinnen und -partnern, deren Transkriptionen sowie ca. 70 Fotografien, die im Zeitraum 2015–2018 in der Tschernobyl-Sperrzone, in Kyiv, Varaš, Netišyn, in den sie umgebenden Regionen, in Berlin und Paris angefertigt wurden. Der Gesamtbestand (34 Interviews) ist im Herder-Institut für historische Ostmitteleuropaforschung in Marburg (www.herder-institut.de) einsehbar und benutzbar. Das Projekt, in dem der Bestand generiert wurde, untersuchte die Geschichte des ukrainischen Polesiens als Interventionsgeschichte im Kontext der (post-)sowjetischen Atomwirtschaft. In den 1970er–1980er Jahren entstanden dort drei Kernkraftwerke mit der dazugehörigen Infrastruktur: Tschernobyl, Rivne und Chmel'nyc'kyj. Damit hielt die „Atomstadt“ (atomograd) als urbane Kommune neuen Typs Einzug in das Sumpfgebiet. Das Projekt beschreibt die neuartigen Beziehungen, die dadurch entstanden sind, und die Transformation lokaler Identitäten. Die Untersuchung stützt sich auf Interviews mit Expertinnen und Experten sowie mit Zeitzeugen aus den Atomstädten und ihrer ruralen Umgebung sowie auf visuelle Quellen, museale Darstellungen, die lokale Presse und „graue Literatur“. Bestandsgeschichte: Die Daten wurden im Rahmen des 2015–2018 laufenden Projektes „Das ukrainische Polesien als Nuklearlandschaft und die Transformationen lokaler Identitäten“ durch Dr. Svetlana Boltovska erzeugt. Das Projekt lief unter der Leitung von Dr. Anna Veronika Wendland und wurde am Herder-Institut für historische Ostmitteleuropaforschung im Rahmen des durch die Leibniz-Gemeinschaft geförderten Verbundprojekts „Polesien als Interventionslandschaft. Raum, Herrschaft, Technologie und Ökologie an der europäischen Peripherie 1915–2015“ durchgeführt. Projektpartner waren Prof. Dr. Thomas Bohn, Professur für Geschichte Osteuropas an der Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen und Prof. Dr. Claudia Kraft, Professur für europäische Zeitgeschichte an der Universität Siegen. Die Projektkoordination hatte Dr. Silke Fengler. Insgesamt wurden Interviews mit 20 Personen zum Standort des KKW Tschernobyl, 21 zum Standort des KKW Rivne und 16 zum Standort des KKW Chmel'nyc'kyj durchgeführt. Auswahlkriterien für die Interviews der 34 Personen dieser Sammlung waren Relevanz der Interviewinhalte und der Biografie der Interviewten für das Thema der Studie sowie die Vollständigkeit und Qualität der Daten. Alle Personen wurden zum Beginn des Interviews über das Projekt mündlich informiert, die meisten von ihnen gaben ihre schriftliche Einwilligung zur Archivierung und Weiternutzung der Daten. Einige wünschten, dass ihre Daten anonymisiert werden. In diesen Fällen wurde auf das Archivieren der Fotografien verzichtet. Die Audiodateien im MP3-Format wurden von mehreren Personen an der Kyiver Mohyla-Akademie transkribiert (Leitung der Transkription: Olena Andreeva) und von Alexander Lell am Herder-Institut schriftlich verfasst. Die hier beschriebenen Forschungsdaten dienten als Beispieldaten zum Forschungsdatenmanagement am Herder-Institut.

Der Interviewpartner Nikolaj Jakušin, 1956 in Tschernobyl (Černobyl') geboren, ist Priester der orthodoxen Kirche (Moskauer Patriarchat) in Černobyl' St. Ilija Kirche (Svjato-Il’inskaja Cerkov‘, der kirchliche Name Sergij (otec Sergij). Seine Erinnerungen an Černobyl' reichen bis in die 1960er Jahre zurück. Jakušin äußert sich über den Reaktorunfall in Černobyl' 1986, spricht von seiner Tätigkeit als Priester, nimmt Stellung zur gegenwärtigen, aber auch zukünftigen Entwicklung der Stadt.
